Research and Planning: Final Cut vs iMovie

After 'testing' the two programmes which can be used to put our trailer together our group has decided to use Final Cut. This is due to the editing and effects being more advanced on Final Cut than on iMovie. There are more 'professional' features such as changing the sound in specific places and a more advanced selection of editing on Final Cut also, this will make our work to the highest standard and quality. I am going to upload a shot test video which will be edited on Final cut. This will give me a practise to become more familiarised with the software.

Research and Planning: Budget List

A budget list has now been created to help us manage how much each item will roughly cost. It also states which items and equipment college are able to provide.

Research and Planning: Location Recce - Portland Basin

Nicole has created our second Location Recce for Portland Basin museum. This is going to be one of our main locations as inside the museum features many different 'sets' which can be used.

Research and Planning: Costume Findings

As Nicole is doing the mise-en-scene within our trailer she has begun to do some extra research into costumes of the 1940's and found a costume  which could possibly be used for our character Walter. This is just one possibility for a costume. Once our budget list is complete we can start fully discussing the issue of costumes.

Here is a link to Nicole's blog post: http://a2medianicolehgandy.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/research-planning-walters-costume.html

Research and Planning: Group Meeting 5

Our group has currently been finishing the shot list for the animatic storyboard. We have also decided on some name ideas which we are going to get audience feedback on using different types of social media. Our audition posters have been created and are being placed in various sites around the college so that we have a wide response from students.

Research and Planning: Animatic Storyboard Progress 2

This is our progress for our storyboard. We have begun to create out final shot list which will then drawn up and our storyboard will be created. The green writing is the dialogue and the red is the type of editing which will be used. Once completed we will then begin to draw the shots.

Research and Planning: Audition Poster

This is our audition poster which is going to advertise to people our film. It includes time, date and contact information for the people wishing to audition.

2. II Worlds Apart

3. Lost Love

4. Moving On

5. The Love We Lose

(Nicole has created a range of logos using da font for each one of our chosen film names)

Research and Planning: Film Magazine Analysis 2

This is a film magazine representing the romance/action genre. This is clearly a film magazine as the title 'entertainment weekly' represents his. Also the cover ones are linked to well known films rather than celebrities and gossip columns. The film represents the action genre as the two characters on the front look strong and armed. The female character has a knife and tattoos which can represent the genre. A romance element is also shown as the female character looks as if she is protecting the male character. The dark colours and framing of the characters also represent the genre. I believe the target audience of this magazine could possibly be 12+ as it doesn't include anything that viewers that age wouldn't be able to see. The film would be 12 or 15+ because of the violence.

Research and Planning: Film Magazine Analysis 1

This s a film magazine representing the fantasy/romance genre. You can tell that it is a film magazine as the cover lines and advertisements are featuring new up and coming films. Also the cover lines do not feature any 'gossip' stories but information about the films. From the photo on the cover you can tell that it is representing romance as there are 3 characters which seem to represent a love triangle. This is found in most romance films. The cover lines tell that it is fantasy because of the line 'no one is safe' which gives us a sense of mystery. The background which has a blue tint also shows that it is a fantasy film. I believe that the target audience for the magazine is 15+ as the films featured on the front would have a similar rating. The film itself I believe would appeal to 12+ as the fantasy element would be too old for children young but the romance side would appeal to this audience.

Research and Planning: Plan For The Week 2

I have created a plan for the week to keep track of my progress:

1. 2x Film Magazine Analysis

2. 2x Drawn Magazine Drafts

3. Animatic Storyboard

4. Extra Genre/Research Post

5. Film Name Poll/Social Network Post

6. Publication Plan

Research and Planning: Equipment and Software List

Research and Planning: 'Say When' Trailer (Cinematography)

This is the trailer for a new romance/comedy film which is coming out soon. Although the plot is very different from ours I have chosen this trailer as I think it has some great cinematography which we could use within our trailer. For example there is an excessive usage of high and low angle shots which would be useful and effective when showing the differences in class and authority within our trailer. The "Say When" trailer also uses slightly high angled long shots to show the characters and their settings. I think this will be useful when filming a train or romance scene to give the 'romantic' sense of the setting.

Research and Planning: Film Poster Analysis 2

The medium long shot of the couple show that these are the two main protagonists in the film. Their posture suggests that they are in a relationship and linking this with the title of the film I would believe that the male character is trying to protect the female character. This gives us a sense of the narrative. The genre is clearly romance. The audience can tell this by the calm colours used and that the tagline states "From the author of Dear John and The Notebook" which are very well known romance films. The layout of the poster also suggest that it is romance as the characters relationship is made the main feature of the poster. Due to the characters being so close together and the title of the film I would think that the target audience for this film would be a slightly older audience and it would receive a 12 or 15 certificate.

Research and Planning: Plan For The Week 1

I am going to create a task list of posts which still need uploading and new posts which I am going to complete. This will help me keep track of my work.

1. 2x Film poster analysis

2. 2x Film poster drafts

3. Equipment and software list

4. Animation storyboard progress

5. Group Meeting

Research and Planning: Group Meeting 4

Our group has had a discussion about the progress of our storyboard. Having changed a few of our scenes/shots we have created a new full plan. This will then be used to create our shot list. Once our shot list is complete we are going to split the amount of drawn shots needed up between the group to get it done in a shorter space of time.

This is our full plan for our trailer including shot types, editing, sound and some parts of the mise-en-scene.

Research And Planning: 1940's Film - 'The Philadelphia Story'

'The Philadelphia Story'

Another one of my chosen 1940's film is 'The Philadelphia Story'.

This poster (like 'to have and have not) has the 'artistic' drawn effect. Again I believe this will work well with the narrative which our group has chosen. The colour of the font also relates to the genre which is romance. The names of the actors is one of the main stand-out features of the poster. They are also very bold and only last names are used. This is because they were the 'stars' of their time. It is unlikely that I will use this on my own poster as the actors I use will be unknown.

The scene I have chosen for 'The Philadelphia Story' shows the two characters having a disagreement over who the woman should marry. The female character (Hepburn) seems like a very confident and willing woman. I would like our 1940's character to act in a similar way. Hepbur's character also acts likea typical woman of her time and once she realises she is speaking out of place she begins to talking about 'feminine' things such as flowers.
