'To Have and Have Not'
As part of my own research into 1940's film I have chosen 3 films along with their posters and a romantic scene. I am going to use this research to help my group and I when filming the 1940's scenes for our trailer and when designing our posters.
From the poster for the 1940's film 'To have and have not' I can see that the male character clearly plays the dominant role. This is because in the 1940's it was still a patriarchal society where men were the dominant gender. The colours are very plain and the red text chosen for the title reflects the romance genre. The poster has a 'artisic' sort of effect as if the poster has been draw by hand. I think this effect would be useful as our narrative is based on a diary/book. It will also introduce the 1940's themes within the trailer and make it look authentic.
