Examples of Horror trailers
Conventions of a Horror trailer:
- Low key lighting to show fear and to hide the initial 'threat' - makes the audience want to watch to see what will happen and what the threat is
- Shows mostly the action filled scenes and the scene of disruption to capture the plot of the film
- Fast paced editing to show action and to also hide the threat which remains a mystery to the audience
- Dark atmosphere, either a forrest or abandoned house at night (isolated locations)
- Sounds include doors creaking, high pitch screaming, "Who's there?" and "What do you want"
- Title of the film cuts the the scene off before any real 'action' happens or anything too important to the plot line is revealed
Examples of Horror film posters
Conventions of a Horror poster:
- Uses of monotone colours or red to signify danger and warning. The colours black, white and grey show there is no or little hope or life for the characters.
- Poster typically has one focal point i.e the main character looking disheveled and worn out, the setting which will usually hide the threat so it is almost impossible to see but still noticeable or the character with their faces covered to hide the threat.
- Low key lighting is used to make the posters look dark and 'evil'.
- Usually contains a reference to other films or true stories e.g 'From the producers of sinister' or 'Based on real events'.
