Majority of the films on the top 20 list are romance-comedy films or book-film adaptations. I think the reason for these types of films being popular is that with book-film adaptations they already have an existing audience so there will already be a hype about the film. With rom-com films they attract a wider audience as men are more likely to watch them. This is because men are less likely to watch a film based around a highly romantic plot line, with the comedy element involved it is more likely to appeal to them.
Another correlation I have found between the films is that most of them were released within the last 3 years because they are new so their audience will be new and fresh to the romance genre. I also think the reason for them all being recent films is because of the link with the book-film adaptations. More books are becoming popular so conglomerate companies are more inclined to create them.
